Prior to our start on the project, The Phoenix Rising had commissioned Matthew Woodson to do the illustrations for their debut CD. Upon receiving the illustrations we set about to best incorporate the drawings into a CD package that best represented the moods the band painted with their music. The artwork was cropped and stretched across the entire booklet, accenting the movement and flow of the hair, giving the scene an almost dream-like state, mimicking the band’s songs quite well.
One thing we tried to do with the CD was work around the expected placement of information within a jewel case. Meta information was placed underneath the spine of the tray card (just to the left of the CD booklet so you could read this information when the CD was shrink wrapped). The copyright information for this disc was placed on the right spine (the one facing the wall when the CD is placed on a shelf). Care was given to make sure information did not repeat itself throughout.
