Sealed Lips Sink Ships

Client
Personal Project
Edition
Edition of 4
Size
30" x 12"
Date
May 2005

The first (and to date, my favorite) woodblock print I made. I cut the block at a time when both dissent for the Iraq War, and criticism of the dissenters, were reaching their peak. The zippered lips were cut to appear as a grenade falling from the sky to land on the island below. The islands were initially made by using a photocopier to distort and transform the lips themselves. A single block was cut and printed 4 times on each print.
